Taxes

Even as a digital nomad, you will have to pay Spanish taxes once you meet any of the following criteria:

• You’ve spent more than 183 days of a year in Spain.
• The core of your economic interests and operations lie in Spain.
• You have a spouse or children living in Spain.

Any of the above will automatically qualify you as a ‘tax resident’. If that’s the case, you will need to comply with the following when it comes to managing your taxes:

• The tax rate is a flat fee of 24% on work-related income up to € 600.000, and 48% on any higher amount.
• You will have to declare assets through the Model 720: Asset Declaration Tax Form.
• You will have to declare any other obligations on your part.

Additionally, you should also check whether working from Spain makes you exempt from taxes in your original country of residence.

Work visa/Permits

Depending on your nationality, employment situation and length of stay, you will need to apply for a visa to enter and work in Spain:

Tourist Visa

• Works for multiple trips
• Valid for a maximum of 90 days stay within a 180-day period

Digital Nomad Visa

• Valid for up to one year, can be extended for up to five years
• You must have a monthly income of at least 2,160€
• You must have an additional 810€ if you have a family member under your care for the first and 540€ for each additional one

Non-lucrative Residency Visa

• Valid for up to one year
• You must have a minimum monthly income of 2400€
• You must have an additional monthly income of 600€ for each family member in your care

Startup Visa

• Valid for up to one year, renewable
• You must provide an innovative business plan and proof of funds

Golden Visa

• Valid for up to 2 years and renewable
• You must have an investment of at least €500,000 in Spanish property or €1mio. in Spanish bonds or company shares

Depending on the visa, additional requirements will include items such as adequate health insurance and a permanent residence.
